I’m Popeye……I mean pop art

Estrella made me into pop art a couple of months ago and I've been waiting for a good time to share it. Today's the day. November 4th. Today is the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street, Abraham Lincoln's wedding anniversary and my birthday.

Yep. The day the earth was given Karen. Woo hoo. [please hold your applause till the end]

So I thought I'd do something a little different today. Since November is also the month that I'm doing NaNo [every time I type that I hear Robin Williams in my head as Mork saying nanu nanu] I thought I'd warn you that the month of November may [ok will] break a lot of the rules I set forth in My Blog Promise To You. As in, hey, I've been writing my novel and have no post…….I'll post a link to my favorite commercial on YouTube. Or hey, I've been writing my novel and have no post…..I'll talk about some of the funny things that people have said to me via email recently.

[but only with permission…..nobody panic….]

[hint …….this is one of those where I talk about funny things that have been said to me via email recently]

Estrella recently posted a Halloween story for Friday flash. It was a gruesome story about a guy who kills his father and makes his head into a jack-o-lantern. [really] Out of her sweet head a story like that emerged. [I was so proud]

A couple of days later she sent me an email with photos of really cool jack-o-lanterns that she and her fiancé had carved. Since they don't celebrate Halloween in Romania, they had a hard time finding pumpkins, and when they did find them Estrella's fiancé was concerned that Estrella wouldn't be able to figure out how to carve it.

Her answer: "But I was quick to reply: I just described in detail how to carve a jack-o'-lantern out of a person's head, I should be able to carve a pumpkin."

Hee hee hee.

So minions…..there you go. Apparently if you can imagine it….it can be done.

And speaking of imagining……

I just blew out my candles and my birthday wish is that everybody out there imagines me having a great day today…..and I plan to……..with a little help from some friends, pumpkin pie and lots and lots of whipped cream.

First of all: Happy Birthday to you!
I won't imagine you having a great day, I know you ARE! :)

Secondly, Karen, I'm just blown away!
I'm happy to have provided you with a post subject and that pop art looks amazing over here, even better than when I made it for you!
I love this part of your post: "[really] Out of her sweet head a story like that emerged. [I was so proud]"
The thing is... I'm proud of having such a great writer role model to look up to as you are (and no, I'm not just saying it because it's your birthday)!

Thank you! For everything :)
many kisses and hugs!

PS: you forgot to mention that the guy in my story also kills one person every Halloween to have a carved "pumpkin" ;)

Awww Estrella you're so sweet. Thank you for the birthday wishes and the post inspiration.
The pop art does look great.... I even took my banner photo down for the day so it didn't compete for attention.

your ps made me laugh...I was hoping to leave something for them to read when they followed the link back to your place.....lol

hugs and smooches back at you honey.
And thanks to you and Fery for the beautiful card.

I already knew Estrella is adorable and funny - now I know she's an artiste. (Do me! Do me!)

Happy birthday, Karen! So far I have sent you a rainbow message and an absolutely horrible limerick. I'm pondering my next gift now...

Be afraid. (But only a little.)

Karen from Mentor said...

Judy I LOVED your limerick. And I'm not even a little bit afraid of what else you have in store for me....[well maybe just a little]

Hey Linda, and happy birthday to your son too.
[all of us born on Nov 4 should untie or unite or something...we could rule the world.... mwahahahah.... and keep all the pumpkin pie for ourselves]
Estrella did an amazing job making me look artsy didn't she?

@ Wendi-thanks! it's how I wear my hair... :0)

@ Annmarie-I know! who would have thought Estrella could come up with something that macabre?

@ Matt-->Thanks!

@ Lisa- hopefully I won't be saying Shazbot!

Awesome picture! I like the different colors.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Of course I already called you and wished you a happy birthday, but I can say it again here.

Karen from Mentor said...

Yes you certainly can and thanks baby. I had a fun day and I'm looking forward to you buying me ravioli on Sunday.

I can't believe the amount of time I spent on the phone today. Lauren called right after you did and I talked to her til we got cauliflower ear. Sadly she can't travel hours and hours just to join us for ravioli. *sigh* hey maybe if we write a note for her boss and throw in pie and send a helicopter....

Happy, happy Birthday, Karen! I just know this is going to be a very good year for you, and I am looking forward to watching it unfold before our eyes, through your words!
(Love the pop art -- it's Karen Warhol)

Karen from Mentor said...

Karen Warhol says thanks Jane! Tomorrow will be 100 posts for me, so anyone who has been reading from the beginning has basically read a novel [about 90,000 of my words] already.

I'm looking forward to giving you more.

hugs and thanks for the birthday wishes!
