Fairy dust

I am starting to believe Linda's theory that my car is sprinkled with fairy dust or something. Mainly because it does seem like I see an awful lot of weird things while I'm driving. And they never cease to amuse me.

Yesterday I was driving along and stopped at a light not far from where I saw the lady with the monkey in my road construction story. I glanced in my rear view mirror and was delighted to see a lady who seemed to be fond of Chihuahuas. So much so that she had decorated her car with Chihuahuas. Lots of Chihuahuas. She had three Chihuahuas on the dash in varying sizes, one pink, one blue and one that was of course the ever popular tan fuzzy kind with the bobble head that the dollar store sells. She had a yellow one hanging on the rearview mirror and a bunch of transparent cling on Chihuahuas arranged artfully on her windows. But the one that really got me was the one hanging from her passenger side visor. It was about the size of an adult's fist and it was just a head. A head of a Chihuahua. I couldn't help but wonder if it was a warning to all of the other Chihuahuas…….

While I was thinking this thought and grinning, I came around the corner and saw a really beat up car that was held together by duct tape. Literally. He even had a sign. "This car is held together with duct tape, spit and the prayers of my mother." I was SO sad that traffic was moving cause boy did I want a picture of that. I'll be keeping an eye out for him again and with any luck his mom's prayers work long enough for me to get a photo to share with you guys.

Then….and I know it's Halloween time and all….I was gobsmacked to see Death standing on the side of the road holding a sign. I've altered the sign since what Death had to say would have scared ya'all……and I just want you to know……I remained calm, even when he waved at me. [shudder]

I also share Linda's theory. But I like it! It's a good thing you can remain calm, since you do see a lot of funny and weird things :P

PS: hope you were polite enough to wave back :P

I did wave back Estrella, it was the least I could do after he posed for me.

I was squeaking with delight over the duct tape car though....and I thought about making a u turn in traffic so I could run him down and take a photo...laughing...but I remained calm.

Do you often have these...uh...enchanted driving experiences?

Yes Laura, So much so that there's a label category devoted to them. It's called "Things I've seen Thursdays."

Just click on that link under the post and you'll be regaled with my driving shenanigans.

People do weird weird things where I live. I think it's something in the water.....

A warning to other chihuahuas?!? I love it!

Death looks to have been quite a site!

Down in Nashville there was always this family that had their own interesting scarecrow out front this time of year. It was facing away from the road, mooning people. Only the partially-dropped pants displayed a pair of cheek-sized pumpkins, with the area where they came together being the crack. I sure wish camera phones had been around when I saw that! Or that I had the artistic talent to recreate such a display in our own front yard. I'm sure my neighbors would appreciate that!

Are you sure that was a fake chihuahua head? I wonder if there used to be a body attached? (I'm thinking Griswolds here.)

I probably would have wrecked if I'd seen that grim reaper. Every year, I forget I'm out driving on Halloween and look over at a stop light to see some ghoul looking back at me. It makes my heart leap.

I think he was actually more afraid of me than I was of him Linda.... you just have to walk up to them quietly...and speak in soothing tones

Oh man Kris!
Loved the description. You certainly painted a vivid word picture.

And I think you should absolutely recreate it in your front yard. Your neighbors won't mind...honest.

What did it say? The real sign, I mean. (Email, please.) I hope you see the duct tape car again. I love duct tape. I think it's one of the greatest inventions ever. It's what makes us human. I might write about it during NaNoWriMo. Ode to duct tape: a novel.

Alternate book title: Silver Magic.....all you really need is duct tape and a hammer

P.S. If I do manage to capture a photo of that guy's car maybe it could be the cover art for your book.
