is a wonder
I can walk
carrying the weight
of all these
unsaid words

since we spoke....
are you finally
footloose
and feline
free
out of the
fish bowl,
behind solid
walls where
you can hang
your guitars?
guitars you
stroke, caressing
their satiny
curves
letting the
bitterness seep
out of your
joints , wearing that guitarist
it hurts
so good expression
to wring the
most from the contact
the contact
that makes us human
re-enforces the
certainty that there’s something
bigger; something
to hang on
to
I hope
you’ve found that something
in a space
molded around you
that’s just
for you
was a shock
for me when
my space evaporated
when I got
unstrung
fell off the
edge –
of that
looming precipice
that had
been hovering over my head
hanging
on by fingertips now,
jammed up inside
a too small space
back kinked,
heart pinched
so very tired
and
no place to
stretch out
packed
away--
unhung,
unsung
forgotten
inside a closed case
no fingers
to play me
no hands to
caress my satiny curves
no essential
contact to vibrate the log jam of pain,
loosen it,
let it flow out, low, long and moaning
into the
music of the night

demons...........
he feeds his demons well
alone in the dark
preparing for war
says he craves peace
but finds battles in
every encounter
warring the world
a world he created
black upon black
alone in the dark
he feeds his demons well

Drenched........
summer walk
stolen from
a
travel day
bench under
a leafy
canopy
not quite
enough
umbrella to shelter
us from a
sudden
downpour
your
plaintive cry of
“I’m getting
wet…”
precipitating
a squelching dash inside
walking
yesterday
I passed the
spot,
remembering
how you
fussed about
your hair
your shoes
your clothes
patted the tree that
had offered
shelter
smiled and wondered
if etched in
its bark, its limbs,
its rings of
counting time
there would
be
a blip of
memory of the day
two people
took shelter
and he was
such a girl

unhooked.....
a flame burned
out, not
through
grooves of
entrenchment
dug, then
left behind
like lines
etched onto
glass
cool to the
touch
but still
rough

walking wounded ......
I dreamed I
lay
flat
Gasping
A crowd of
the
curious looking down
on me
My chest –a
gaping hole
a spear run
right through it
I woke with
a chill
sweated out hours
later dancing
to zydeco
in the festival heat
Mid
afternoon,
browsing
stalls
hot, sweaty
smiling - oblivious
to my peril
the crowds
part and
there you
are
Arms open,
saying come
here
Your chest
to mine
arms tight
around me
soft words
kisses exchanged
at parting
People turn to
look
as I walk
away
Drawn no doubt
by
the squelching
sound
of the
sucking chest wound
reopened by
a blunt embrace

Ghostly leftovers....
Every time I climb
into my bed
you’re there
A will o’ the wisp
haunting my nights
fleeting , ethereal
Ever again solid in that
pink mist just
before full waking
Your arms
wrapped snugly
spooning me
into a new day

Woo me in the moonlight.....
Woo me in the moonlight
like you’re shyly seventeen
Like you’ve never caressed
a creamy white thigh with
your trembling
hand
Like you’ve never teased
a taut pink nipple
with your tentative
teeth
teeth
Woo me in the moonlight
like you’re shyly seventeen
Make each touch stretch
til sinews hum on
bones
gooseflesh rises at each
expelled sigh
Woo me in the moonlight
like you’re shyly seventeen
Til the dawn crests like
a blushing beacon
And beams a shimmery
headlong path toward
devouring me in the sunshine

Burnt umber…..
I believe your past
shapes you
and may even
color you in
I prefer to
color outside
the lines

Exploration......
on a whim
he changes
his face furniture
in the dark
her lips trip up and over
tracing a new traffic pattern

Stillpoint....
Cup pleasure
in your hands
Bury your nose
in it
Let it overwhelm
your spirit
Revel, soak, wallow,
saturate your senses
Gather instances of joy
into your pockets like
sparkly breath mints
To be taken out
and savored as
refreshment for the soul

Will work for food.....
When I feel small
and alone
I know I need
to open myself
up more
A heart that’s
stretched
doesn’t pinch

Unchained melody....
[recipe for happiness]
Stand still
Lay down
your baggage
The kind you
cherish
Hug to your
chest
Take out and
polish
With a tear salted
rag made from
the bitter tatters
Of your given
once too many
times heart
[repeat]

Transparent....
How can
eyes
so soft
burn such
a deep
hole
in my soul?

Counter clockwise
A simple shift….
a crow bar's wrench
to the left
In the iris of your
dark heart
To make a space,
a sliver….
an opening
To actually see,
touch and feel
The light that
is me
