That’s not my cleaver officer….

Occasionally it's healthy to behave irrationally. It just might be healthier without quite so much bloodshed next time.

Irrational is good in small, bloodless doses. I like the clever use of the word 'cleaver'.

So leaving behind a trail of severed limbs and burning bridges would be less "good"?

*makes a note*

Unsurprisingly Karen, you packed A LOT in so few words!

I put up a #vss [very short story] on twitter this morning.

Staring at his jugular, wondering if it's worth the dry cleaning bill.

...laughing...I think I have mayhem on the brain this morning.

Thanks for stopping in Deanna.

Love how your brain can connect the dots between a cleaver, behavior and bloodshed in the morning! ;)

The best part of my gruesome mind set today Estrella was reading a #fridayflash posted by a German writer.

She named her main character Brian. My brain always reworks Brian into brain and I have to regroup.

But this author sprayed Brian's brains all over the wall, so the story had some kind of sick symmetry for me...laughing...

There is a reason why some cultures accept the behavioral state, "run amok"...it must work, but as you cleverly pointed out, probably not with cleavers:)

Wei Yu Lun Cheng,
I'm working on getting a better English translation for what you said. Google translator wasn't a lot of help.

Chinese is such a pretty written language, it almost seems a shame to turn your words into English characters.

Thanks for stopping in, glad you enjoyed it.

You know Erin, I've always wanted to run amok. But somehow I've always pictured it as a bloody rampage in the nude.
[It would have to be on a cloudy day, I burn SO easily]

I loved this definition from Captain James Cook:

"To run amock is to get drunk with opium... to sally forth from the house, kill the person or persons supposed to have injured the Amock, and any other person that attempts to impede his passage."

Mostly because I've also always wanted to sally forth.

"Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,
And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,
I will be brief" (With thanks to the Bard)

And so you are - and witty withal (the dictionary explains that "withal"'s origin is Middle English, no surprise - I was once accused of speaking Middle English in day-to-day speech)

Hmmm...brevity not such a strong suit of mine, 'twould seem :-}

By the way, if the fact that I enjoyed your ultra-short got lost in all the "limbs and outward flourishes above", let me - briefly - state "Excellent piece, Karen!"

...giggling...thanks Kevin. The reference to limbs and flourishes just takes me back a couple of days to John Wiswell's comment about guys and dancing. Only I think the word "flailing" was substituted for "flourishes."

An idle question. If you speak fluent middle english do you get to live in middle earth? Because if so I want to sign up for that. I'd love to live in the Shire.

The Shire? Goodness gracious, no. Were I to live in Middle Earth (and I'm not saying that I do, or do not), it's more likely I'd be found in Mordor. :-}

Mordor. Got it. [re-arranges some stuff in her head]

I was just talking with Jodi MacArthur about this, but did you ever notice that really EVIL villians tend to have great hair?
hmmmmmmmmmmmm........

I suspect running amok is best done naked...simply because it would save clean up, well, more disposal really cos we all know THAT much blood is not going to be easy to get out of clothes... and who doesn't find themselves in messy situations wearing white and instantly regretting it???

Have always quite enjoyed the notion of sallying forth. :-)

(Not to any sparkly-frogged shire tho, nor that sparkly-meercatted Mordor place either.)

Karen from Mentor said...

You know Cat I think enough blood would work for sun protection too, so naked amok would cover both the laundry and the skin protection issues. Good deal.

This serves as just another reminder that any planned mayhem should always be ran past one with "thriller author" on her business card.
