Babies and toddlers and goats…….oh my!

I've always had this thing where babies launch themselves at me. They can't help it. It's like I'm a big beaming beacon and they just have to be in my arms or something. ….which really came as a surprise the FIRST time it happened with a stranger's baby because I was at work and waiting on a customer [retail job in high school] and her child actually leaped out of her arms into mine. I managed to catch him gracefully and held him for a bit while his mom did the oh my gosh did you see that thing ….he's never done anything like that….etc …etc….to everyone standing nearby. Then after I extracted my hair from his mouth where he was busily trying to cut a new tooth on it, I gave him back and he started to cry. So, I had to hold him and let him chomp on my hair the whole time I helped his mom find new shoes and then when we were done I could hear him crying all the way through the store after they left my department.

So this weekend when I was walking through the grocery store and a little bald headed big eared one toothed tot launched himself out of his shopping cart at me I wasn't surprised. His mom was, but I wasn't. And I know the visual that comes from that description isn't appealing, but oh my gosh was he cute. And since my hair is short now he didn't have anything to chomp on so except for a little drool on my lapel I came away from the encounter unscathed and smiling hugely.

Later that day I was driving to the park still basking in baby exuberance and noticed a couple of floppy eared dogs in the car in front of me running back and forth in the back of a smallish SUV. There's nothing odd about dogs in a car especially dogs in a car near the park. Hundreds of people walk their dogs in the park every day. But what is unusual is GOATS in a car. Because the dogs in the car in front of me weren't actually dogs, but miniature goats! Two miniature goats running back and forth looking out all of the windows seeing what they could see. It was adorable.

And speaking of adorable. There is an age when little girls LOVE the color purple. There is an age when little girls love tiaras[um…some girls never outgrow that one] And everyone needs sunglasses.

So when I got to the park and saw a toddler wearing these:

I decided that whoever invented them was probably a millionaire within a week.....a gazillionaire once they added the glitter....and wished I'd thought of it first.

[This has been an update of the things that swirl around in my brain. The thing that occurred to me when I was typing the first baby story was that he'd be grown now and only sixteen years younger than me. Wouldn't it be funny if I ran into him now? It would be like that scene in Here comes Mr. Jordan when the couple meets again after Joe's soul is put into a new body and the love interest looks at him and says ……"I don't know what it is…..it's just something familiar in your eyes……." ]

Would you still love me if I admit to not liking purple or tiaras? I do sort of like the sun glasses though. They've got the whole Elton John singing it old-style thing going on. Now, questions: At what age to the children stop launching themselves at you. I'm thinking it could get dangerous. And, how big is a mini goat? I think Lexi needs a playmate.

[is SHOCKED but still loves you]

To date the babies have been pre-verbal....so under 15 pounds and fairly easy to catch.

Rachel was with me one time when a child CLIMBED me and instantly fell asleep on my shoulder.

I saw Elton when he was still doing the big sunglasses. It was an awesome show.

The goats were about two feet high. But goats eat EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. You wouldn't want one in your house.

I once saw a goat eat the chrome strip off of the side of a cadillac....laughing...the man who owned it was not pleased to say the least...

I'm not even going to show Breezy that picture - she'll NEED those glasses so badly.
I think she's almost out of the Pink phase - have noticed she's favoring the purple shades of pink now!

:-)

I can picture you wearing them Karen...

I looked cute in them....I mean I would probably look cute in them. It wasn't like I stole them from the toddler and ran away.

But the best thing? Since the tiara is moulded right into the glasses you don't get hat hair.....

What does it say about me if I still like purple? Not tiaras and glitter though, so maybe I'm okay.

And I'd take babies over goats any day. Although if I could teach a goat to do housework ...

Linda I look FABULOUS in deep purple and wear it all the time[now I'm singing hush] I think it says about you that your skin tone is different than Judy's lol...But all three of us look great in Green so we've got that going for us.

I know you can teach a llama to be a mama.....

Oh, very cute photo to start off with something obvious.
Babies throwing themselves at you could be because you smell like freshly baked cookies (like I've read in your random thoughts)?
if not, then they just have good instinct and know you're an amazing person!
Floppy eared dogs, I mean goats: adorable - yes; Karen needs glasses, again - yes :P

I think the brain lets the eyes see what they expect to see sometimes Estrella, and I certainly wasn't expecting GOATS in a car! I was so delighted. And I could hear them baaing once I got my window down. But I wasn't fast enough to take a photo.

And I agree that babies have good taste...[basks in the glory of her golden aura]

Oh! and I lifted the photo right off the site where you can order the glasses.

Did you hear that Cat? You can order them ON LINE for breezy.

I think you'll need to buy at least a dozen though and hand them round or there will be tears at kindergarten.

Everyone has a skill. Yours is apparently to get small children to throw themselves at you. Such a fun image.

Karen from Mentor said...

Well, that and ...um... ok...yes that's my skill Ashley. Yep.
[whistles nonchalantly while looking for a ten foot pole to not touch that statement with]

glad you enjoyed the image.

Did you intend your title to be triple redundant? Kids and Kids and Kids... Oh My!

Karen from Mentor said...

That's funny Tim, I didn't see it at the time, I was going for Lions and Tigers and Bears...oh my....

But yes I see it now. I guess the title is rather redundant...but at least it wasn't also obsequious and purple.

I love purple! It's my favorite, although I love color, period. I'm not a vanilla girl. I would have liked to have seen the (goat) kids. :)

Karen from Mentor said...

Why am I not surprised that you're not a vanilla girl Laura?

The kids were adorable. I wanted to pet their floppy goat ears. But I learned at an early age to avoid their mouths.

I once had a horse bite the iron-on on my shirt and the same day a goat tried to eat the tie on my swimsuit. Mouths that are bigger than human mouths should be given a respectful distance.
