Lookie here

I pride myself on my powers of observation, but I just noticed today that my funky little cd player scrolls the word "goodbye" when I shut it off. And I've had it two years…..

Mine does that too. What kind do you have?

Hey Jared,
Nice to see you. I JUST read your debut flash. Don't know how I missed you. Great job!

Re: The cd player

It's a TEAC which is probably just code for "inexpensive."

But they all probably say hello and goodbye these days....electronics have gotten SO polite.

Where's the alarm clock that screams at you until you finally roll out of bed?
That's what I'd like to know.

I once heard of an elevator apologizing for the wait if the door is held open for too long. Amazing.

I like the English subway train's oh so polite "mind the gap" over and over and over and over.....

My Sony did that. But I noticed it the first time I turned it off. I was pretty lonely back then and such a simple thing meant a lot to me. I started calling it Charlie.

Eventually I built it a robot body and there was a lot of fuss about rampages, villagers with pitchforks and torches and having to make a new life for myself in a new country.

But those early days were great.

That's cute :)
Electronics really are very polite these days... My example would be: we went bowling a couple of days ago and after we finished the game there were these sweet bowling pin ANGELS flying around the screen asking us to "Please stay" :)

PS: no idea how long ago they introduced this feature, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't on last time we were bowling... or was it?

Wow Estrella, when I go bowling along about the fourth frame the guys with hooks from the gong show come out and drag me off the lanes.

Pretty cool that angels ask you to stay.

Ah... building a man from a kit.... I could get behind that idea Anton.

My Mp3 player has "Goodbye" flash across the screen as well. Personally I would prefer something a little more dramatic and audible as it shuts down. Like the audio clip from that wicked witch who died in the Wizard of Oz. Just imagine... you push the button to shut the device down and you hear, "No! No! I'm melting! Melting..."

And then the voice fades until there's complete silence.

That would be so much more captivating than a bland, "Goodbye."

But then again, I'd probably run down my battery in no time, listening to my Mp3 player turn off over and over and over again...

Which if my translator works properly is along the lines of "I hope you have more experiences to share with us."

Thank you 裕瑤 for that idea, I do too, because, well the alternatives would be a)I stop writing b) I get hit by a bus or c)I never have another funny thought. And of all of those? I'd take b before a or c. [well unless I was hit by a bus in a FUNNY way.....I could probably work with that....]

Thanks for stopping in. :0)

Well, Kris, you might be surprised to know, oh wait, in this day and age VERY LITTLE is surprising...so...Hey Kris, Guess what I found on the internet?

Plus a snow globe, a fountain, and a music box....all requiring batteries of course...

Chris's computer says, "I'll miss you, hurry back." on shut down. He put that on years ago, and it's still creepy!!

Rachel's last computer said "I'm sorry Dave I'm afraid I can't do that" in Hal's voice anytime there was a problem.

That kinda freaked me out.
