Oh the horror…..
I think I may need to step away for a few days from the author that I'm currently editing. He writes horror. Gruesome, ghastly, blood dripping from the ceiling type of horror. And the thing is he sometimes gets stuck on how to make one ghastly scene flow into the next ghastly scene, so part of my job is to do a lot of what if and stitch things together for him.
I decided yesterday that I think I need a break and some sunshine and maybe some light reading for a couple of days.
Why? [you might ask] Well, it has to do with baby moose.
Yesterday I saw this awesome video of baby moose playing in a lawn sprinkler. Someone was filming it in their backyard as it happened. At first you see a baby moose in the woods, then the camera pans to the sprinkler, then the baby moose wanders into the yard and starts playing in the spray. After a while MAMA moose wanders into the yard. Then a SECOND baby moose wanders into the yard and they all play in the sprinkler together.
[I'll wait while you all go awwwwwwwwwwwww]
So of course I immediately needed to send this video to Rachel and Lauren. I copied the link and fired off an email to them and then went back to work.
About fifteen minutes later I had a what if thought. I hadn't watched the video all the way through because of time constraints. And when my what if kicked in I was appalled. The thought I had was hey that looked like they were expecting the moose, what if the people filming lured the poor moose into their yard and at the end of the video someone blows them away with an oozie, or their giant pet monster grabs them and has them for dinner?
It was at this point that I decided that maybe I needed a little brain break away from the land of horror.
I didn't share my what if scenario with Rachel when she said that she had enjoyed the video, but since she didn't report seeing anything other than cuteness, I was very relieved to know that the little moose didn't come to any harm in the real, non what if world.
So if you see me outside wandering around enjoying the sunshine for a day or two, don't think that I'm just loafing. I'm actually fueling my brain and storing up some light so I can take the next voyage into the blood dripping from the ceiling, ghastly things that would even scare darth vader's dark side.
I'm considering the possibility that I might have to start charging on a sliding scale depending on the overall body count in a work in progress. It's no wonder that I've been having such weird dreams.
And here I thought it was just because I sometimes eat spicy food after 9:00pm.

eep. I have been running a fever while reading Go go girls of the apocalypse. I had fever dreams revolving around book bloggers building post apocalypse cave homes out of paper mache. Weird and creepy. Take a break, have some sunshine and hugs and puppies.
Thanks for sharing the cute moose story. Folks here on the island like them too. Next to their peas and mashed potatoes.
Never, I mean Never ask what ifs with baby Moose, you do need a break..
Oh, Karen. Putting Darth Vader and moose in the same post...
At least I didn't exptrapolate the two...but hey, now I will.
Did you know that spell check doesn't notice if you type chocolate mouse instead of chocolate mousse Laura?
Maybe that's because vader likes a chocolate mouse now and again.... but for me? Chocolate mousse or nothing!
ok--that was a long way to go...even for me...but if anybody asks I'll be blaming it on low blood sugar-- either that or on the fact that the sensible parts of my brain are FRIED from all the horror...
I really hope my author doesn't come in and read this comment. He'll be afraid...very afraid... oh hey...payback...

@ Michael...I've heard that they can be sneaky.
@ Alan ... ewwwwwww. But I have eaten some pretty weird things in my lifetime too, rattlesnake, shark and the like...so I guess as long as they weren't BABY moose on the plate with the veggies....
I want to party with you Haglerat. Love the dream. I'd tell you one of mine, but then people would worry.
My Rx: Rest and plenty of fluids for the fever. Oh and maybe watch a light romantic comedy just before bed.

Wow. Makes me glad I've mainly been editing nonfiction/communications books lately. The dreams and random thoughts resulting from that kind of reading are a little less disturbing!
Oh I don't know Kris, I once had a dream about Brownian motion that scared the bejesus out of me....
